In 2010, Mina Rezkalla enrolled in the Egyptology master's program at Minia University, completing his first year with a 3.8 GPA. Over the years, Mina has assisted numerous Egyptian travel agencies and tour operators in customizing itineraries to fit travelers' interests.
In 2009, he pioneered tracking the Holy Family's escape route and developed multiple itineraries, which were later adopted by Egypt's Ministry of Tourism. After moving to the United States, Mina continued to support tour operators and travel agencies, even helping a friend launch a travel agency in the U.S. due to his extensive experience in tour planning.
Mina's career trajectory in the U.S. reflects his ambition and relentless pursuit of growth. He initially entered the food service industry, where his dedication and skills quickly advanced him from cook to restaurant manager in just six months. Five years later, Mina transitioned into hotel management, rising rapidly to become a general manager within two years. He worked for several international hotel brands in the U.S., gaining extensive experience in all aspects of the hospitality industry.
Drawing on this experience, Mina decided to establish his own travel agency to offer affordable tours to Americans interested in visiting Egypt, having witnessed firsthand how expensive such trips can be.
After completing his bachelor's degree, he received a scholarship for a master's degree in the same department, allowing him to pursue postgraduate studies and specialize in Egyptology. His enduring interest lies in Ancient Egyptian religious texts, and this specialization has provided him with a solid foundation in the field.
The most important shift in his academic life occurred when he moved to Luxor and worked as an assistant lecturer of Egyptology in the tour guiding department at the EGOTH Institute. After finishing his PhD, he devoted himself to studying the monuments of Luxor, spending five years documenting the majority of the city's monuments. This work resulted in his book "Reading Ancient Egypt, Part One: Thebes," in which he developed a methodology for studying Ancient Egyptian monuments based on reading Ancient Egyptian texts. This is also the name of his YouTube channel, "Reading Ancient Egypt with Professor H. Sotohy," which serves as a living presentation of all his previous studies.
During his tenure in Luxor, Professor Haisam took on the responsibility of organizing and conducting a wide range of training courses for Egyptology students at the EGOTH Institute. These courses spanned various archaeological sites in Egypt, from Cairo to Abu Simbel, showcasing his in-depth knowledge and mastery of Egyptology training methods.
Egyptology—especially the Ancient Egyptian language—is a crucial element in the knowledge of tour guides, beginning in university courses. He developed a course in Ancient Egyptian language for Egyptology students, employing two approaches: first, teaching Ancient Egyptian grammar in comparison to Arabic and English, which is very effective for both Arabic speakers and non-native students; second, he relied on real readings from monuments, benefiting students in their future careers.
Many academic projects are still pending, including completing the second and subsequent parts of his book, conducting training courses for Egyptology students and other interested groups, and enhancing his YouTube channel with more scientific videos for the benefit of Egyptology students.
He is also the Dean of a prominent university in Egypt.
